Four Forms of Privacy Law

There are four forms of protection governing your personal information.

  1. MFIPPA: Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

  2. FIPPA:  Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

  3. PHIPA:  Personal Health Information Protection Act

  4. PIPEDA: Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act

They all say:
 

  • Your personal information cannot be collected, used, or shared with others without your consent (permission)
     

  • You have the same rights as everyone else
     

  • You can ask for support, assistance or accommodations with your aids
     

  • Your rights can never be limited without a good reason from the court
     

  • Even if you have to provide personal information to get a service, you can still control how it is used and shared with others
